This is why you can see Nanako's sprites and images in most older h-events. There were no expectations to see anyone but her when the h-events were made, so intertwined with text, sound and animations of the h-event are the reference to specific images found in the picture folder. Most of the h-events thus have their setting of character portrait and pictures hard-coded for Nanako. The game has been worked on for the last two years (at least) with the focus on one character, Nanako.
